Running with the Devil ....

a bit of classic Van Halen for you :)

I was indeed running (hobbling !) with the Devil today at the Devil's Punchbowl marathon (it's actually a 30 miler or 32 if you get lost !!).

i went into the event with a thigh strain & so my goal was simply to survive & then rest as i have a month until my next event & so I achieved my goal.

It wasn't pretty, I started well enough running with some of the Big boys - Paul,Allan, the 2 Dave's, Mel & Simon & was fine through the first 12 miles then the thigh went & I lost touch with my mates but tagged on with a few other guys & was able to cling on to them until the final 2 miles. I then found myself 2 miles from the finish in the middle of nowhere with no instructions as I had donated mine to a damsel in distress my mate Heather & with her navigational record she might have been out there for days otherwise - LOL !!

I picked the most probable route & luckily it turned out to be the right route, Never been so glad to see a finish to a race, I ran 20 miles on one leg dragging the other one round :(

Whilst out there for the best part of six & half hours (6.26.25) I did have plenty of time to consider today's song title - other nominations were "when the going gets tough", by Billy Ocean but I thought that was a bit cheesy, Alive by Pearl Jam as I was barely !! Slow an' Easy by Whitesnake (that was my pre race plan but it wasn't as slow as I thought it might be & it sure wasn't easy).

Today's champagne moment came from a different race today, my mate Naomi cracked her PB with a supberb 3.37 in Seville, well done to her - I bet she's celebrating tonight with freshly squeezed Orange juice from the local produce - or maybe not ?!!!

Keep on hobbling !!!
